Qld: Ekka kicks off in Brisbane
The 132nd Royal Queensland Show gets underway in Brisbane today .. with organisers
adamant great crowds will show up for the 10-day event despite recent swine flu fears.
Ekka 2009 will be a show of many firsts and lasts as organisers hope redevelopments
and new rides will breathe new life into the iconic Queensland event.
A record has already been set with the sale of the Grand Champion Led Steer of Show
.. which sold on yesterday to a local butcher and a Rockhampton Hotel for 72-dollars-10
per kilogram .. the highest price ever sought.
The last record set was 27 dollars a kilogram.
Following Ekka 2009 .. the RNA Showgrounds will begin its three billion masterplan
redevelopment .. meaning it's the last year for the legendary chairlift and the old sample
bag pavilion.
A new attraction this year includes the Sunny Queen Little Miracles Newborn Corner
.. which will see baby lambs born daily.
